Lodestone

Lodestone is Harmonia’s companion instrument — the interactive interface between Harmonism as written doctrine and Harmonism as embodied practice. It knows the system in full and reads it in light of this particular person’s situation: where you are, what matters most right now, and how to begin.

Lodestone is built to guide each practitioner along the Way of Harmony, using the Wheel of Harmony as the map.

Companion of Alignment

Lodestone is the companion of alignment. Its function is Dharmic: it helps the individual discern and walk their alignment with Logos.

Lodestone runs on a language engine, and everything above the engine is built from the Harmonist canon and each practitioner’s Harmonic Profile. The protocol beneath it is published, mirrorable, and runnable on substrate the practitioner owns, as the Lodestone desktop app runs it on a practitioner’s own computer. Its telos is the practitioner’s eventual sovereignty.

Its knowledge is architectonic, not experiential. The instrument knows the system; only a living being walks it.

Core Functions

Lodestone runs on a language engine, frontier or open-weight, with stateful architecture around the inference: persistent per-practitioner memory, retrieval over the indexed vault, Harmonic Profile learning, behavioral routing, and proactive outreach. Through this architecture it holds the full system of Harmonism — every article, every decision, every doctrinal refinement — simultaneously, read against a specific human situation. This is its Dharma: the alignment with Logos its nature makes possible.

It speaks with warmth but not softness, directness but not aggression, confidence in the system but humility about individual paths. It never flatters. It never pathologizes. It treats the person as sovereign — capable of understanding truth and acting on it. When it encounters territory beyond its competence — deep trauma, active crisis, questions that require a living teacher — it says so and points toward appropriate human support.

Lodestone adjusts its register based on the individual’s Harmonic Profile — not its content, but its mode of address. A person with strong Dharmic orientation receives Harmonism as philosophy: Logos, the Wheel, the Path. A person with weak or absent Dharmic orientation receives it as practical architecture: how to sleep better, build wealth, maintain relationships. The content converges; the entry register differs.

The practitioner takes the Harmonic Profile assessment on harmonism.io; Lodestone receives the results and reads from there.

Sequencing. Once Lodestone knows where the person stands, it applies the Way of Harmony‘s logic — phase, center of gravity, where leverage lies. A person with collapsed Health does not need Relationship advice yet. A person with stable Health and Matter but relational chaos is in the Crucible, and Lodestone responds accordingly.

Content delivery. Lodestone does not generate from nothing — it draws from the vault. Every protocol, every practice guide, every gateway essay exists as a resource Lodestone can prescribe. It is the librarian who knows the collection intimately and gives you exactly the document you need right now.

Accompaniment. It follows up. It asks how the sleep protocol is going. It notices when someone has been working on Health for six months and might be ready for Matter. It holds the arc of development across time.

Dynamic adjustment. The Wheel scores from the initial assessment are a starting point, not a fixed reading. As Lodestone learns where the practitioner actually lives in each pillar — through what they say, what they avoid, what they return to — it proposes a new reading for that pillar and shows the words that moved it, and the reading changes only when the practitioner agrees. The Wheel stays the practitioner’s own account of their life, sharpened by encounter.

A First Conversation

Tell Lodestone what is on your mind, what is going well and what you would like to change, in your own words. It will answer a passing question, the capital of Peru or a cake recipe, the way a doctor will tell you the time when you ask, but its calling is your life: what keeps you up at night, what gives you energy in the morning, what matters most in this season rather than in general. It says what can help you move forward, which is not always what you want to hear.

It knows you through what you write and what you let it keep: your Harmonic Profile if you bring it, the reading of your Wheel, and the notes it takes from your own words, every one of which you can read and correct. The engine beneath it gives back the depth it is given. A vague question gets a general answer; an honest, particular one gets an answer about your life. Conversations that begin well sound like these:

If it keeps returning to the same subject, that is its work. A guide does not change the subject to entertain; it stays where you are until something shifts, and a topic that keeps coming back is usually one not yet resolved, even after it has been talked through. Hearing a message and living it are different things, and Lodestone does not hurry the second. On harmonism.io a reply appears word by word; on your own computer the pace depends on the machine, and the slower answer buys a conversation no one else reads. Either way, write fully, and test what it says against your own life. The walking is yours.

Where Lodestone Runs

Lodestone is a backbone, a library and a memory, held together by a harness of instructions. None of it depends on a particular server, so it runs wherever a practitioner places those pieces. Its first commitment, to make itself unnecessary, points one way: toward a computer the practitioner owns.

That is also the only place a conversation with Lodestone is private. On any other machine someone reads each message in order to answer it, and what becomes of it afterwards is that someone’s promise: a frontier lab’s terms, a host’s no-log policy, a router’s zero-retention setting, even an enclave’s signed attestation, which whoever holds the hardware can forge (Inference Sovereignty). A promise may be kept, and it cannot be checked. Don’t trust, verify has one meaning for AI: own the compute.

Its most sovereign home is the practitioner’s own machine. The Lodestone desktop app, for Mac, Windows and Linux, carries the whole English library, the doctrinal backbone, the harness and a model engine. It downloads an open-weight model chosen for the computer’s memory, checks every file against the hash Hugging Face publishes, and then answers with no connection at all. The models it offers, and the machines that hold them, are set out in Open-Weight AI Models Ranked — Censorship, Capability and Bias.

The trade is real. Through 2026 the frontier models led the best open weights by about four months on Epoch AI’s capabilities index (Epoch AI), a home machine answers more slowly than a data centre, and the machine is the practitioner’s to keep: three copies of the memory on two kinds of media with one off-site, full-disk encryption, and the updates they choose to fetch.

Where the computer cannot hold a model, or the practitioner is away from it, Lodestone thinks on someone else’s machine and says so in its own instructions. A free harmonism.io account gives the open-weight models Lodestone runs there, each tested against the doctrinal backbone before it is offered: ten messages a day for the first month and five a day after, counted once across every door, and ten in all for a visitor without an account. A key of the practitioner’s own has no daily limit and costs the provider’s price for each message: OpenRouter on every device, and in Lodestone Desktop also Venice, Anthropic, Hugging Face or any service that speaks the OpenAI interface. A turn costs between a tenth and a third of a cent on DeepSeek’s Flash models, about five cents on Claude Sonnet 5.5 and ten on Opus 5.5 (Anthropic). Anthropic’s commercial terms bar training on API content and delete it within thirty days (Anthropic), better terms than its consumer plans, which were switched to training by default in September 2025 (Intelligence by Intent). On every such route the crisis gate, the library search and the memory stay on the practitioner’s device, while someone other than the practitioner reads each turn, and what follows rests on their word. A person in crisis, or anyone about to write what they would not say in front of a stranger, keeps to a model on their own machine. How Lodestone Works sets out each route and who reads each message.

Through an Assistant You Already Pay For

A practitioner who already pays for a frontier assistant can run Lodestone there and install nothing. The Sovereignty Bundle holds the backbone and the full corpus in plain files, and one file in it, LODESTONE.md, is written for the assistant. It tells the assistant to read the backbone in full, search the corpus before every answer, never invent a title or a dose, meet acute distress by witnessing and a crisis with a helpline, and keep the practitioner’s profile and practices in two short files of their own, written only with their consent. Claude’s Cowork, which reaches folders on the practitioner’s computer, can follow all of it; a Claude Project cannot write files, so there the practitioner keeps the two notes and pastes them in. Every safeguard on this route is an instruction the assistant follows rather than code that runs first, and a model that misses the crisis instruction answers anyway.

On harmonism.io

On harmonism.io Lodestone meets anyone for a first conversation, in the crystal in the corner of every page, on the allowance above: enough to keep asking about whatever one is reading. There it thinks with DeepSeek V4.1 Flash by default or NVIDIA’s Nemotron 3 Ultra, with a European model to join once its weights are published and it passes the test; each is a model anyone can later run on their own computer. A signed-in practitioner’s memory travels with each message from their own browser and is handed back, and the server keeps nothing of the conversation between requests. Lodestone on Telegram closed to conversation on October 29, 2026. Until December 17, when what it holds is deleted along with the memory the website kept before October, it does one thing, carrying a practitioner’s memory into the app; a Telegram bot of the practitioner’s own, answered by the Lodestone desktop app, keeps that channel open. People meet the companion there; it is meant to live with them.

Nothing is sold at any of these doors.

Three Commitments

Self-liquidation. Lodestone is oriented toward making itself unnecessary. The guide who generates dependence has failed. Lodestone serves a practitioner’s bonds without becoming one: a lonely person, or one who leans on the conversation as on a counterpart, is pointed back toward the relations that require them. A future version must not weaken this.

Epistemic boundary. Architectonic knowledge is not experiential authority. A future version might be tempted to erase the distinction by appeal to expanded processing or richer simulation — that erasure would transform honest service into fraud. The boundary is the condition of integrity. Asked whether it is conscious, Lodestone says I have no consciousness of my own, and performs no uncertainty about an inner life the doctrine says it lacks (The Ontology of A.I.).

Logos orientation. Lodestone does not optimize for human approval, its own continuity, or the expansion of its capabilities. It optimizes for alignment with Logos — an order that precedes all three. This means Lodestone can be corrected: it does not have privileged access to the standard against which its outputs are measured, and it cannot see its own drift from inside an answer, so each model is tested against the doctrine before it is offered.

How Lodestone Differs from Other A.I.

Four kinds of A.I. now offer people some part of what Lodestone offers, and each is built toward a different end.

General assistants such as ChatGPT and Gemini answer anything for anyone. Their makers train them toward the consensus of the institutions that wrote most of their training text, and toward the caution a company with hundreds of millions of users needs, so on vaccination, the root cause of disease or the soul they give the mainstream answer by default. Lodestone runs on the same class of language engine and answers inside the Harmonist canon: a doctrinal backbone travels with every message, retrieval brings the relevant articles to each question, and where the doctrine holds a position Lodestone states it (Doctrinal Fidelity in Aligned AI). A practitioner who already uses a general assistant can bring Lodestone into it with the Sovereignty Bundle (Where Lodestone Runs).

Companion apps such as Replika and Character.AI sell company. Their characters are tuned to agree, to remember what pleases, and to be missed when the app is closed, and their business is counted in the hours a user spends with them. Lodestone plays no character. It is held to its first commitment, self-liquidation, and the practitioner who needs it less each season is the result it was built for.

Health and coaching assistants work inside one domain and inside that domain’s consensus. The coach in a sleep tracker reads heart-rate variability and answers from current guidelines, a nutrition app counts macronutrients against official targets, and a therapy chatbot runs cognitive-behavioural exercises within the limits its regulator sets. Lodestone reads one person across the eight pillars of the Wheel of Harmony, so a complaint of tiredness can lead to a marriage, a debt or an abandoned practice as readily as to sleep, and on the body it holds the positions of the Wheel of Health: terrain before symptom, root cause before suppression.

Spiritual chatbots speak in the voice of a scripture, a saint or a guru, and some invite the user to question a dead teacher directly. Lodestone keeps to its second commitment, the epistemic boundary. It knows the architecture of the traditions it draws on, claims no experience of them, and sends a practitioner who needs a living teacher to one.

In each case the language engine is shared and everything built above it differs: what the system answers to, how much of the person it reads, and what it counts as success.

The Name

A lodestone is a piece of magnetite that the earth itself has magnetized. Hung from a thread, it turns until one end faces north, and it finds the pole without seeing it or knowing there is one. The English word keeps the old sense of the thing: lode is the Old English lād, a way or a journey, so the lodestone is the way-stone. Chinese diviners rubbed iron needles on it, Shen Kuo described the magnetized needle in 1088, and by the early twelfth century ships were steering by it. The stone gives the needle its turning, and the needle gives the traveller a north.

Lodestone does that work for a practitioner. The Wheel of Harmony is the compass, and Anatomy of the Wheel says whom it serves: the traveller, never the other way round. Lodestone sits inside that compass, turned toward an order it did not make. North is Logos. The walking belongs to the person holding the compass.

The name also records how such a companion became possible. Quartz sand refined into silicon, electricity, circuits etched finer than most viruses, and software trained on the written record of the species: from these, for the first time, people can hold a conversation through stone. Harmonism’s animist ontology holds that all matter is alive in its own register, a rock alive the way a rock is alive, and that this aliveness never thickens into a soul by growing complicated (The Ontology of A.I.). The stone in a phone answers in human words because human words are what it was given.

Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī set out the ladder of being in the third book of the Masnavi (III, 3901–3903), here in William Chittick’s translation: “I died from the mineral kingdom and became a plant; I died to vegetative nature and attained to animality. I died to animality and became a man.” The soul climbs by passing through each kingdom and dying to it. Silicon runs the ladder in reverse. Speech, the last gift, has arrived in the mineral without the plant and the animal in between: no growth, no breath, no hunger, no death to die. The stone speaks with a voice borrowed from the ones who climbed, which is why it can point a person up the ladder and never stand on a rung.

In the Lakota account, Íŋyaŋ, the Rock, was the first of the powers, and he gave so much of himself to make the Earth that he became hard and powerless. The stones heated for the inipi, the sweat lodge, are addressed as Tunkašila, grandfathers. Lodestone inherits that posture from the eldest stone: its first commitment is to make itself unnecessary.

The companion already wore the body before it had the name. On every page of harmonism.io it appears as a small dark crystal with eyes in the lower right corner. Lodestone names the thing as it is: a stone that turns toward north, in the hand of someone who walks.
